What to pack? Will the case weigh too much? What will we really need at home. One thing that we have learned in doing this cruise is that we have over-packed…seriously, what do you need? Alaska: jeans, tee shirts, jackets. Canada: jeans, tee shirts, jackets. Do you see a pattern here? But today’s suitcase will not be taking too much. Because we are flying out on a float plane, we are only allowed about 25 pounds.

We had never been in a float plane. Around 12:30 we boarded the 4 seater and flew off! So much fun! Karlyn and I followed the charts that were in the seat pockets in front of us pointing out islands and cute names of spots. My favorite was one that Karlyn found: Point No Point!

WE land on Lake Union and took the van to SeaTac. Grabbed a but to eat and jumped on our flight to Orange County. An uneventful flight! Yeah!

Spencer picked us up and when we arrived home, he had dinner ready for us. Ah, home.

Our flight to Seattle is on Friday the 12th….

A beautiful day here! I have always enjoyed cruising when we are able to stay in a spot for a few days. And what a great spot to stay.

Before lunch, the four of us boarded a bus and went to Friday Harbor. We had lunch, and yes, there was a yarn shop so Karlyn and I had to visit. Karlyn noticed a cute summer sweater and I offered to knit it for her. It will be the perfect thing to work on while we are going south to California.

Kelley and Chuck located a spot for a beer (surprised?) and we met up and took the bus back to Roche. Dinner tonight at McMillins in the resort. Delicious!

Tomorrow we return to California. This leg has been so fun and interesting. I had forgotten how enjoyable cruising is.

Roche Harbor here we come! Nice trip down.

The customs officer was funny, he asked if we had any weapons of mass destruction! I was the only one who had bought anything, 6 skeins of yarn…Tim asked if he knew what that was, and he used his hands to describe them. Too cute.

Before we knew it we were tied up at the dock. Kelley and I were here about 20 years ago with are friends, the Harts, and their family when we chartered 2 boats to cruise the San Juans. When we were here last there was 1 long dock and the hotel and restaurant…now there are homes and shops and a huge marina. When I talked to Spencer about being at Roche, he asked if they still made donuts in the morning…and they do!

We had lunch on the dock, did a little shopping…and then took a cab to Duck Soup for dinner. As we were eating, we look up and there is Dave Baker! A fellow member of CIYC! A great day!
