I so wanted to go to the Farmer’s Market and was on my way to the store when I realized that I had forgotten my cash…no freshly baked bread for us. We did dinner on our boat and taught the Barrys Farkle. Jameson had given us Pirate Farkle and we all had a great time. The Barry’s went to Miami to look at a gray parrot that they are getting. I think that they should name the little darling, yep: Farkle.

Those of you who really know us, know how much we HATE shopping! And imagine being somewhere without a car and really not a clue where everything is. Fort Myers is a sprawling city. It takes forever to get anywhere. The Barrys are letting us use their car when we need one. We thank them so much for that. But today, we all needed so many things.

Into their car we go…we hit, Lowes (a microwave convection oven for me); TJ Maxx (just to look but did find a treasure or two); Costco (duh); Sam’s Club (Barrys’ spot); and Totally Wine (another duh for those of you who KNOW us). At Sam’s Kelley bought us a pizza and we treated dinner and ate on Free Spirit with Dianne and Bob.

We were all tired puppies, but not too tired to play Mexican Train. Ann, I sure wish I had your game with the whistle!

Well, the adventure has begun. We took a new flight out of John Wayne Airport and it left later than the one we normally have taken. This meant a closer connection in Houston…we all made it! All meaning us and the bags. We arrived at 4ish and so did our slip neighbors, Dianne and Bob Barry. They were flying in from Colorado. Bless Dianne’s heart, she arranged a taxi that we shared to the marina.

An hour later, we are unpacked and off to dinner at the Morgan House. Didn’t take Kelley too long to get back into boat mode.

Here are our friends, the Barrys.

Partaker CottageWe have come up to Lake Arrowhead for a few days. The weather is quite different here than in Florida. (There really isn’t any snow here, but I forgot the camera!) When we arrived the outside temperature was 25 degrees…inside Partaker Cottage was 37! This is the temperature that we leave the thermostat at when we leave. We turned the heater – not forced air – up to 68 and went off to lunch. By 6 pm it was 57 inside. But then that is what sweaters are for.

It has gotten warmer over the last few days. We have had great walks. There is a lot of construction going on and we have been watching new and re-construction since the summer. We feel it is our job when here to critique the progress, or as is often the case, lack of progress.

This morning we walked over on the UCLA Conference Center side. We walked along the lake and continued to marvel at the huge homes that are rarely occupied. To be a house-sitter for one of them would be a great job.

Big game on TV tonight. We get to stay up here because we have just gotten DirecTV here and one for Prime Time, which we will take back with us. Just think, we can be in Florida and catch the 5 o’clock local news at 8; our receiver will think it is in California. Guess we will need to get a waiver for the local stations.

Happy New Year everyone! We begin gathering the next boat load when we return home. We have one way tickets to Florida on the 15th. “He who would be Jimmy Buffet” is looking forward to the warmer weather!
